Mast knowledge
with Ben van der Steen
Ben breaks down the differences between the Essentials, HD, and Elite series. Learn how carbon content affects flex, weight, and responsiveness -- and which mast suits your riding style.
Curves, measurements and how it all fits.

Universal Ferrule System
In 2021 Unifiber introduced the Universal Ferrule System. All Unifiber masts now have identical ferrules (the part that connects the two mast halves), regardless of size, bend curve or carbon content.

Windsurfing Mast FAQs
The mast is a crucial element of your windsurfing setup, serving as the backbone of your rig. It plays a vital role in transferring forces from the sail, absorbing vibrations, and responding to the sailor's input.
What are the different types of masts for windsurfing?
There are two main types: Standard Diameter Masts (SDM) -- thicker (48-50mm), stiffer, ideal for larger sails. Reduced Diameter Masts (RDM) -- thinner (38-40mm), more flexible and lightweight, perfect for smaller sails and improved handling.
What is IMCS in windsurfing?
IMCS means Index Mast Check System. When loading a mast in the exact middle with 30KG (base and top supported), the level of deflection defines the stiffness. Important: IMCS should not be confused with Bend Curve -- IMCS relates to responsiveness, while Bend Curve influences sail shape.
