Kiteboarding Line Requirements

Top Lines: Vector Quad Pro 300kg to 500kg
Brake Lines: Vector Quad Pro 300-375kg

Kiteboarding requires the strongest lines due to extreme wind conditions and high power loads. For safety and optimal control, use lines rated 300kg minimum. Brake lines can be lighter than top lines as they primarily need stiffness rather than maximum strength, since power transfers mainly through top lines.

Landboarding and Snowkiting

Vector Quad Pro 300kg to 375kg lines for top lines and 300-375kg for brake lines.

Both Landboarding and Snowkiting involves jumping and flying. To fly safe and be have optimal control over your kite, we recommend to use lines 300kg+

Sport / Trick Flying

Vector Dual colour lines and Vector Quad Pro 50kg to 100kg lines

Which line strength you should use depends on a number of factors. Ideally one would use multiple line-sets for the same kite for different wind speeds to get the best possible performance.

You can imagine that a 2m 4-line foilkite flies great in 20 knots on 200kg steering lines, but fly that same kite with the same lines in 10 knots and you will notice that the lines sag, making steering less responsive.

Powerkiting

Vector Dual colour lines and Vector Quad Pro 150kg to 200kg lines for top lines and 75-100kg for brake lines.

For powerkiting, it all depends on the size of the kite. Small kites only need 100kg lines while bigger powerkites require lines up to 200kg.

Also keep line lenght in mind: Line lenght is very much preferential, the rule of thumb is: Shorter lines make steering more direct with the sacrifice of low end performance and long lines give the kite a better low end at the sacrifice of kite responsiveness.

Kite Buggy

Vector Quad Pro 150kg to 300kg lines for top lines and 75-100kg for brake lines.

Buggy lines are mostly heavier do to the size of the kite. Therefore, a line strenght of around 200 kg is preferred.

Even pilot skill and riding style comes in to play when we look at buggy racers, smooth technical racers will use 200 to 250kg steering lines where heavier and/or more aggressive racers will use 300kg lines or even stronger.

Generally, high winds and/or heavier pilots require stronger lines.
